Edition of 400 copies double album from renowned Parisian avantist Ghedalia Tzartes: Check Point Charlie was originally issued on CD by Aaya in 1990 and was the first work specifically conceived by Tazartes to work in the longer form available on CDs. Spread out across two slabs of vinyl it sounds even better. This is a classic in his back catalogue and provides extended examples of alla his fascinations. The hallucinatory tape work and the extended vocal calls come across like the kosmische treatments of Holger Czukay circa “Boat Woman Song”. There are some amazing moments of ethno-flux that have all of the third-eye ululating power of Sun City Girls while the cut-up tape work comes over like a rigorous European re-think of the goofball strategies of LAFMS operatives like Smegma. Beautifully presented too.
