Klaus Schulze/Gunter Schickert
The Schulze-Schickert Concert
Previously unreleased private recording that sees Klaus Schulze (Ash Ra Tempel/Tangerine Dream/Cosmic Couriers et al) cutting some insane jams with legendary ‘echo guitar’ pioneer Gunter Schickert in Schulze’s home studio in 1975: Schickert’s amazing 1974 side Samtvogel remains a major Krautrock obscurity, with a massively fucked guitar sound that balances the kind of eternal echo and F/X style of Achim Reichel’s legendary sides or even aspects of early Ash Ra Tempel with an atmosphere that is as personal and as dislocated as the best of the beyond the long blank singer/songwriters. Here Schickert plays a 12 string Framus with metal strings and sings on a bunch of tracks while Schulze plays EMS Synthi A, keyboards and Syntanorma. Schickert generates endlessly phasing arpeggiated rhythms which Schulze counters with epic gothic keyboard sweeps and a-musical squonks, conjuring a kind street-fighting kosmische w/a heady, epic aspect.
