Psych-Death-Noise Vol. 1 Audiobot BOT-146 CD-R £8.99 Totally fantastic bone-grinding set of ultra-focussed silver space and black hole style collapsing drones from this historic head-to-head featuring the most malevolent and subtly mind-fucking Japanese noise artist, Yasutoshi Yoshida aka Government Alpha and Dutch steel gobbler Zytrax aka Dead Husbands. Each track is focussed on two or three singularly dense sound sources, with heavy single-note bass drones torn apart by waves of white lighting, beautifully disconcerting loops and lurking, inchoate vocal ritual. Totally mesmerising and rigorously conceived noise that’s a good skull or two above much of what passes for contemporary scuzz. Edition of 80 copies with colour art by Claudio Parentela. Rough Riders Audiobot BOT-177 CD-R £8.99 New set of spirit-welding noise from these Fag Tapes-associates who carve mounds of obliterated vox/home kit into harsh subway sonorities and ribbons of metallic feedback. Parts of this sound like Masonna's microphone devouring routine while the occasional flash of vocal judder seems to reflect on the less corporeal sections of Coil's Musick To Play In The Dark. |

Fishman Alights Darkling Upon The Shore Audiobot BOT-167 CD-R £8.99 Follow-up to the great Bird Flu disc on XDEY, this is another beautifully occult-inflected float through twilight sonorities from this mysterious group guise of Mr Matt Anderson, with aspects of William Basinski’s forlorn minimalism cut-up with a blur of low-grade tape smoke and sheets of black rain. Beautiful. Limited to 70 copies. |

Untitled Audiobot BOT-035 LP £12.99 Second ultra-mysterious release (no details or credits anywhere on the sleeve) from Caleb Johnston, reputedly the brother of Twig Harper of Nautical Almanac. The Twig Harper connection makes a lot of sense, with the same kind of destroyed/junk-based noise syntax put to the service of gut-churning punk sound poetry and ultra-crude fuzz gargling that charges a bunch of the Nautical Almanac back catalogue. But there's something a little more European about the violent, actionist bent of much of the sound, so if you're into smearing yourself in goat skank, setting fire to household objects and wanging your dick off a coat hanger you're sure to feel 'at home' here. But even if you prefer to consume your art actions on a nice stereo in the comfort of your own swank pad, this should make a nice addition to the shelf. Edition of 300 copies in hand silkscreened covers. |
