Cryptic Cloak Jyrk CD-R £6.99 Reissue of material from two super-rare CD-Rs from this Vancouver-based lo-fi electronic destruction squad. Deformed rock moves alongside drum-machines and what sounds like vintage arcade game effects in the service of brain piercing repeato-hypnosis. Parts of this remind me a little of some of the Sparkle Girl material, with a similarly dosed approach to cultural usurpation. Swanson describes em as being “like if the Dead C self-titled double disc from a few years back was way more lo-fi and they were super young genderfuckers from Canada with a hell of a lot of inspiration and piles of totally shitty gear”. Woah. Limited to 100 copies. |
