POSTAGE & PACKING
We package all of our vinyl safely and securely using only professional cardboard mailers with cardboard stiffeners and all box sets, CDs, Cassettes, DVDs, etc. are also packaged securely with professional packaging. We recommend RECORDED OR SIGNED FOR DELIVERY for the UK or SIGNED FOR INSURED post for a minimal extra cost in the unlikely event your package is lost or damaged. If you live in the UK RECORDED DELIVERY is only £1.25 additional (and if your package value is under £46 this also covers you for insurance), if your package value is above £46 and you want full insurance and guaranteed next day delivery we recommend choosing SPECIAL DELIVERY. For European customers SIGNED FOR INSURED POSTAGE is only £6.50 in addition to the 1st Class Airmail price. For REST OF WORLD customers SIGNED FOR INSURED POSTAGE is only £5.50 in addition to the 1st class airmail price. We cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage of any non-insured packages. Our aim is to mail packages within 24 hours of receipt of payment, however if an item you ordered is out of stock and will be back in stock within a 10-day period, we will hold your order and ship the package as soon as the item(s) are back in stock.

Please note TRACKING is only available for packages sent RECORDED/INSURED. No tracking or insurance coverage is provided with any of the 1st class options. IF TRACKING IS IMPORTANT TO YOU PLEASE CHOOSE THE RECORDED/INSURED OPTION!

Legally in the UK we have to pay VAT on postage for all items sent within the UK and Europe. All of our postage prices for the UK/Europe include VAT therefore the price you pay may be 20% more than the price you see on your package since we have to pay VAT on the price charged by Royal Mail.

The below chart is a shipping estimate and should be treated as a guideline for postage prices. We weigh all packages to give you the cheapest postage available so you may often pay less that the prices you see below.

ABOUT VOLCANIC TONGUE
Founded in 2005 by the writer David Keenan and musician and artist Heather Leigh, Volcanic Tongue is a Glasgow-based boutique record store and booming international internet mailorder site that specializes in new, second-hand & rare underground music & associated sub-cultural ephemera including vinyl, CDs, cassettes, books & magazines, apparel and DVDs. Their website also functions as a magazine and a weekly newsletter with full in-depth reviews of current underground, experimental, psychedelic and left-field releases. They only carry stock that they love themselves and operate a heavy filter policy, scouring the sub-underground to bring you the most earth-shattering examples of unknown tongue from around the world, with a particular emphasis on artist-produced and self-released editions, private presses and punk primitive vinyl, cassette, CD-R, 7″, book/magazine and lathe formats you won’t find anywhere else. The focus is basically anything birthed from the fists and throats of free thinking humans including Free Folk, Psych, Japanese Underground, Noise, Avant-Garde, Free Jazz, Blues, Experimental, Garage, Punk/DIY, Drone, Minimal Synth, Industrial, Sound Poetry, Prog, American Primitive, Private Press, Acid Folk, Classic 60s/70s Rock, Basement Scum & Assorted Outsider Modes. They also promote concerts, program festivals, DJ and host readings and performances in their shop. In December 2012 they’re moving from their premises on Argyle Street to the prestigious Hidden Lane and are set for many exciting changes including a brand new web site and intimate events in their new space.

PRESS ABOUT THE SHOP

About: With material ranging from the blackest Japanese folk, Leeds’ dirtiest noise, and reissued glorious psychedelia, you’d need to be dead from the neck up to not find something to match your taste. The handmade shelving, fanatical staff, the sheer number of records in the intimate space makes it clear this is first and foremost a labor of love / obsession. Can you name another store with a Jandek shrine?

Specialty: As a store, label, and mail order / distribution company it’s swiftly become a lightning rod for the free/drone/noise/psych scenes. VT stocks all of those records that you would normally never have a chance of finding, unless you had some umbilical connection to the bands in question. Poetry books, t-shirts, DVDs, cassettes and CD-Rs—the place is jam-packed, and it demands more than a cursory visit.

Why We Love It: If the leftfield is your thing, then you can’t help but get seduced. Their weekly email updates cover such a huge amount of stock, and feature mini-reviews to let you know exactly what’s coming out. There isn’t anywhere else that does such a comprehensive round-up of what’s what in international underground music.
