Second volume in this mind-bogglingly ambitious series released by RRR / Troniks / Ground Fault that attempts to map key underground fault-lines across the USA by gathering a full LP side from a clutch of the most forward-thinking motherfuckers in their respective, geographically-distinct scenes. Bunch of disparate players included on this first California volume, all of whom share the common goal of expanding primitive 'musical' modes with the kind of beautifully formulated atonality that forsakes any previous notions of dialogue or tongue in favour of complete, intuitive noise-informed communion. A solid listen from start to finish but stand-out sides include: The Cherry Point, with an amazing noise blat that sets a whole new standard for sublimated tonal wipe-out and somehow manages to evoke Hendrix's machine-gunning of The Star-Spangled Banner - in terms of bloody-minded iconoclastic disruption - while echoing Matthew Bower's experiments in loading white-out zones with hallucinatory melody; The Skaters, who contribute a string of short tracks that are very minimal and relate more to their early New Age tape releases, albeit cut-up with some Eurasian tapes and rounded-off with an oddly profound disco/gospel loop; Rick Potts' Solid Eye project, that provides an umbilical to classically cranky early American avant goof; GX Jupitter-Larsen, who contributes some long, minimal trance damage; Yellow Swans, on their heaviest bone-bending form; Spastic Colon, who sound most like late Nurse With Wound Rock'N Roll Station-style paranoia; Damion Romero and Oscillating Innards, both of whom contribute monoliths of unforgivingly harsh noise dynamism. Also features great sides from Open City, Amps For Christ, Joe Colley, Control, Gerritt, Moth Drakula, Rubber O Cement, Sixes, Tralphaz, John Wiese (another killer), Xome and Rhy Yau. Limited to 1000 copies, this is the Ground Fault edition that is numbered to 300 with alla the discs bound in card California wraps and a bonus California state badge. Mind-blowing.
