Limited edition vinyl in a one-time run of 570 copies. The hands-down best Sun City Girls side in an age, Djinn Funnel ditches the goof-quotient in favour of extended electric trio jams that swarm with alla the malevolent third-eye cussing of their classic Majora-era recordings. The guitar playing is just phenomenal, with a continent-straddling reach that seems to owe as much to Keith Levene as it does to classically-formulated eastern drone concepts and at points the trio lock into some jarring, almost Metal Box-style frozen trance. Elsewhere they're slurring notes and vibrating vowels like punk-informed Egyptian magi. A timely reminder of still-transcendental powers of SCG, compiled from live blow-outs 1999-2001.
